The
Drakensberg area of Natal stretches
south and east of the majestic peaks of the
Drakensberg Mountain Range to the boundry of
the N3 freeway.
The region encompases a number
of Game Reserves and Anglo Zulu battle sites.
One area of interest is the Ndedema Gorge which
is located in the Cathedral Peak district near
Winterton.
This steep sided valley is famous
for being one of the world’s most important
storehouses of San (Bushman) rock art.
There are 17 standstone rock
shelters and caves containing 4000 separate
rock paintings. This is the legacy of ancient
Stone Age who lived and hunted in these remote
foothills.
